Pin Tucking

Pin tucking are rows of fabrics that are sewn and results to a raised look. A good example of pin tucking is a tailored blouse. Pin tucks are often used in combination with trims and laces on heirloom cloths. They can also be used as accents on garment sections like yokes and collars. The best pin tucks are made from lightweight fabrics such as lawn or batiste, although some thread tension adjustments may make them as stunning as satin or denim. Pile and heavy fabrics generally are not the best for pin tucking though twin needle stitching can still be used for accents.

Pin tucks are created with the help of a double combination needle and a grooved pin tucking foot. The needles are available in different spacing. The smaller its spacing, the tinier it tucks. Pin tucking feet are available for many sewing machine companies and they also come in a wide variety of indentations.

Many types of thread can be used in pin tucking. This includes cottons, metallic and other heavy jeans top stitching threads. By using a lightweight white fabric for tucking, you are able to produce a shadowed look by incorporating dark colored bobbin threads. Another creative option that you can have is the use of several colored threads. Just make sure that the threads are of similar weight.
